Don’t Let the IRS Punish Schools for Supporting Students

The IRS has proposed revoking the tax-exempt status of Harvard and any other private school that offers support focused on students of a particular ethnic origin, race, or color. And this is "regardless," in the proposal's words, "of the intent or legality" of that support.

Yes, the federal government wants to punish what is perfectly legal.

It wants to cancel about 750,000 scholarships. To outlaw clubs based on affinity groups. To eliminate specialized counseling for students based on their backgrounds. In other words, to limit access and narrow the chances of success.

And if Harvard refuses?

Donors would lose a large incentive to fund the University, which means slashing the budget. Less financial aid. Less research. Less of the very things that make Harvard strong.

You can help prevent this. The government is required to review and address public comments submitted before November 3. Make your voice heard.
